In the November 2008 issue of Catholic Digest, I spotted this humorous story that I wanted to share. Sometimes we get too caught up in memorizing chapter and verse of Bible quotes that we fail to realize what's really important. Lots of times, what's important can be pointed out by children in our midst. Being a 2nd grade catechist, I have experienced many times when the student was smarter than the teacher. How lucky and blessed are we who have experienced something like what follows:
A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible, Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Ricky was excited about the task, but he just couldn't remember the psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know."
For those of you like me who still haven't fully memorized the entire Psalm, "The Lord is your Shepherd, and that's all you need to know," Amen.
